An Open letter to the leadership of the Michigan Democratic Party

MY HUMBLE OPINION

My name is Terry Bankert. I work for a living as an attorney practicing only in Family Law in Flint MI.

My public service ,paid and unpaid, has extended since I was 25 years of age. I am 57 yrs.

For seven years I was an employee of a Genesee County unit of the Democratic Party.

Politically I have only a modest local status and hold no elective office other than Democratic Precinct Delegate. My voice may not be of the highest caliber, I make no pretense, but I am persistent and willing to suffer personal loss when I challenge on local issues.

At one time I was honored to be the City of Flint Municipal Ombudsman and I retain an intense urge to challenge power when misused , advocate principles of good government and fight for those principals.

I offer this only as motive background to explain why I so intensely object to the damage done by the leadership of the Michigan Democratic Party to the Party itself. Specifically the disenfranchisement of 500,000 Michigan Democrats because the Michigan Democratic Party choose to utterly disregard the rules of the National Democratic Party.

In my opinion;

1.The leadership of the Michigan Democratic Party intentionally violated the rules of the National Democratic Party

2.This same leadership attempts to portray Obama not being on the Michigan primary ticket as some fault of his when it was theirs.

3.There is a diminishing window of opportunity to get this national delegate selection process right. This window appears to be closing with no action.

4.We must be actively building our party, this process is dismantling it.

5.My State Democratic Party will be measured as lacking in integrity and credibility if our delegation is not seated.

This disenfranchisement has occurred at exactly the moment our Democratic Party could have shown the American people our greatness.

We Democrats nation wide will be measured by the citizenry as they observe how we organize to meet nationally to save this county by electing a Democratic Presidential Nominee.

We are on the door step of changing the impression of the world about what it means to be an American. This will be accomplished by electing a Woman or and African American to the Presidency of the United States.

What a great opportunity to “show case” our greatness as a Party. This is slipping between our fingers.

The world will be watching the Democratic Party National Convention and before it the debacle of Michigan and Florida.

A convention should raise our candidates to greatness. This one could taint our nominee with the vile stench of treachery, lies, disorganization and deceit. This intentional rule violation was done for the sake of power. The power to set a primary date. Why was this important? In my opinion this power test was to satisfy the egos of the Michigan Democratic Party State Central Committee and its Chairperson Mark Brewer.

I implore the party leadership to set it right.

"BANKERT RE-VOTE PLAN"

A RE-VOTE PLAN THAT CAN WORK! The “Bankert Plan”!

No easy answers in sight for Michigan Democrats
Showdown may loom in debate on scrapped primary [H]

Democratic party officials cancel Michigan's convention rooms [LA]

THIS IS ONE WAY TO ATTRACT ATTENTION TO THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY!

Democrats could be heading for a bitter showdown in Michigan between Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barrack Abomey, and it's unclear who'd have an advantage there or how anyone would vote.[H]

IN A DEMOCRACY MARK BREWER HAS CAUSED 500,000 PEOPLES VOTE TO NOT COUNT AND HE HAS NOT BEEN JAILED.

Some 500,000 people voted in Michigan's primary Jan. 15, but the national party refuses to recognize the result because it didn't follow party rules.[H]

THE NATIONAL PARTY TOLD THE CANDIDATES TO STAY AWAY BECAUSE MARK WAS BAD.

Clinton won that contest, but oBAMA didn't compete and wasn't even on the ballot.[H]

Looks like the Democratic National Committee means business in its ongoing stalemated dispute with Florida and Michigan.[LA]

According to our colleague Christopher Reynolds over at The Times' travel blog, the committee has canceled the hotel accommodations for the 177-member Michigan delegation to the Democratic National Convention in Denver in late August. Just try finding that many rooms at the last minute during a political convention.[LA]

And the DNC never even made any reservations for Florida's defiant delegation.[LA]

THE MARKEE CLUB THAT GOT US INTO THIS MESS IS STRUGGLING TO GET US OUT OF IT. THANKS GANG!

Meanwhile, U.S. Sen. Carl Levin, Democratic National Committeewoman Debbie Dingell, UAW President Ron Gettelfinger and U.S. Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick are among Michiganders negotiating a solution with DNC Chairman Howard Dean on seating the state's delegates.[D]

HILLARY DOES NOT RESPECT AUTHORITY

Now state officials are considering whether to have a revote later this spring, possibly in a caucus or "firehouse primary," although the state government and the national Democratic Party say they won't pay for it, which only adds to the confusion.[H]

LETS THINK THIS THROUGH, I PROPOSE THE “BANKERT PLAN.”

1.The way out of this Brewer mess is to revote.

2.Party rules control the revolt process helped by State Law. It is a private Democratic Partry affair.

3. Every Democratic Precinct Delegate and party member as of a Feb Deadline has been invited to a Congressional Caucus delegate selection convention on March 29.

4.Here’s a stretch ...why not combine the two. What to do about those 500,000 human beings, citizens of the State of Michigan who declared a political party and voted.

What to do about this 800lb Gorilla.

Answer throw it a bunch of bananas in the farthest corner and run like hell for the door or create a plan to respect the right of the voters, integrity of the Democratic Party and show that we are a party of leaders with vision and a commitment to service.

Are you up to that Markee. Here is the “ BANKERT PLAN”

a.Make the first order of business ,March 29 2008 Congressional District Caucus, essentially ratifying the Feb Public vote with Hillary getting her vote and OBAMA getting all of the uncommitted.

b.In Front of God, country and the Fox NetWork , the congressional caucus could vote for different percentages. That would be an act of political suicide , it will not happen. Then continue with the delegate selection process.

5. If Markee has the cahoonas to spit in the face of the DNC he can surly organize this to save his butt..

6. Lets call this the BANKERT RE- VOTE and DELEGATE SELECTION PLAN [trb, I am just having too much fun and obviously am not looking to a political future.]

"Probably the most sensible thing to do is split the delegates 50-50 and make the (January) results irrelevant," said Marjorie Sarbaugh-Thompson, an associate professor of political science at Wayne State University in Detroit.[H]

But things aren't that simple. One reason is that the primary was scarred by racial controversy.[H]

AS A POLITICAL PARTY WE MUST RESPECT OUR BASE NOT JUST SERVICE OUR ELITES

Black voters were particularly frustrated on primary day. Not only were many offended that the national party was saying their votes didn't matter at a time when Abomey was making a serious bid for the presidency, but they also felt disenfranchised on the birthday of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.[H]

THE UNCOMMITTED SHOULD ALL BE GIVEN TO OBAMA NOT CLINTON BACK DOOR POLITICS STEALING THEM.....ALL HELL WILL BREAK LOSE IF THAT HAPPENS...JUST TRY IT BILL!

At the urging of local black leaders, about 70 percent of African-American voted "uncommitted."[H]

HER’S WAS THE ONLY NAME ON THE BALLOT AND SHE BARLEY GOT A MAJORITY

Clinton, the only major candidate on the ballot, won with 55 percent.[H]

Exit polls asked people whom they'd pick if all the Democrats then in the race were on the ballot, and 35 percent said Obama.[H]

Another 12 percent went for former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards. Their combined vote was slightly more than the 46 percent that Clinton got in this all-candidates-included option.[H]

REMEMBER THE JESSEE JACKSON PRIMARY, IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL THING AND IS A CRACKER NIGHTMARE!

If Michigan votes again, "black voters would probably come out in droves," veteran state Democratic activist Leo Lalonde said.[H]

It would be the same procedure Democrats have used in past Michigan presidential caucuses. Polls would be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and any eligible voter who hadn't voted in the state's Jan. 15 Republican primary could participate. The voter must be a citizen who turns 18 by the November election and declares himself or herself a Democrat for the day.[D]

THE BANKERT RE-VOTE PLAN WOULD HAVE A MARGINAL COST OF $0,

Granholm had suggested a "firehouse primary," which would allow Democrats to cast their ballots again sometime before June. It would cost about $10 million.[D]

Florida also broke party rules by holding its primary in January. No candidates campaigned there, but Clinton won, only to see the Democratic National Committee outlaw the state's delegates.[H]

And coming down the back stretch it’s the “Natives” and the “Dead Rabbitts neck to neck”[trb]

The significance of both states has heightened as the delegate race remains close and neither Clinton nor Abomey is likely to secure the 2,025 needed to win the nomination.[H]

WHO CARES WHAT BARRACK THINKS THIS IS OUR STATE AND OUR SELECTION PROCESS!

The obstacles to a do-over election to pick Michigan's delegates to the Democratic National Convention seemed to grow Friday, after Sen. Barrack Obama's presidential campaign officials told the state's top party official that they wouldn't accept Gov. Jennifer Granholm's idea of a party-sponsored primary.[D]

WHO CARES WHAT HILLARY THINKS THIS IS OUR STATE AND OUR SELECTION PROCESS!

Many Democrats want a revote in both states, since the Democratic National Committee disqualified all their delegates because the states' primaries were held too early in violation of party rules. Some party officials are suggesting caucuses as an option to get the delegates qualified—but that doesn't pass muster with Clinton. "I would not accept a caucus," she told us. "I think that would be a great disservice to the 2 million people who turned out and voted. I think that they want their votes counted."[U]

AND THE LEADER IS.......

The latest Associated Press count gives Abomey 1,569 delegates to Clinton's 1,462. Michigan has 156 delegates at stake.[H]

THE BANKERT RE-VOTE PLAN WOULD HAVE NO MARGINAL COST!

Howard Dean, the chairman of the Democratic National Committee, said yesterday that a revote in both states would be acceptable. But no one has figured out the details or how to pay the multimillion-dollar price tag.[U]
