DEMOCRATS SPONSOR FLINT MAYORAL DEBATE

I am a member of the Genesee County Democratic Party Executive Committee. As such I have been asked and accepted the chairmanship of a sub committee to organize a Flint Mayoral Debate Sponsored by the Genesee County Democratic Party and its caucus’s , to include but not limited to the Black Caucus headed by Gerri Hall.

The event will be Hosted by UAW Local 651 ( Art Reyes) and held in their Great Union Hall on 3518 Robert T Longway Flint MI .

We held a brief meeting last night. You are invited to join in organizing and promoting this event.

The first meeting will occur this coming Wednesday March 18th at 5:30 p.m. in my office at 1000 Beach Street, Flint MI 48503. 235-1970 fax 234-5080, attorneybankert@yahoo.com

You can also participate by email. We need your suggestions on format of the debate, questions to ask the candidates and how to promote the event and build a crowd.

Core decision making will flow from members of the Genesee County Democratic Party Executive Committee , the spokesperson is Chairperson Jack Minore, but we want to partner with the Flint Community.

How can your Neighborhood Group, Crime Watch, Church or Union assist this effort. How can we get the word out to your membership? Send me an email or stop by the meeting and share your thoughts. Feel free to send me your master email lists!!!!

Executive committee members signed on so far.
Art Reyes, Mary Severn, Sharon Reeves, Rita Vater Darnton, Joe Massey, Terry Bankert, Jack Minore. Several others stated an interest.

Objectives ( to be discussed in detail Wed. March 18th 5:30 pm 1000 Beach St, Flint MI AND FINALIZED)

WHO : All the candidates for Mayor of Flint May 2009 are invited to a debate and presentation to the community

WHAT: Flint Mayoral May election candidate debate

WHEN :APRIL 16TH 2009

WHERE: UAW Local 651 3581 Robert T Longway 7 PM

WHY: To inform the Citizens of Flint and Michigan about the special Mayoral election and participating candidates.

Recommended Organizing objective for this event. To be finalized at the Wed March 18th meeting.

1.Organization of on site activities.10 people needed.

2.Promotion of event. Small committee and active chairperson needed

3.Candidate contact and participation confirmation. One person needed

4.Media relations, One person needed

5.Recruiting community partners. Small committee needed.

6.Out reach to the Genesee County Precinct Delegates and Party members to participate. Small committee needed, preferably led by an elected official.

7.Running of the debate. Jack Minore, Art Reyes, Gerri Hall and small committee.

7a.Select moderator, one invitation being sent out.

7b. Working with moderator set rules of the debate.

7c. Working with the Genesee County Democratic Party Caucus’s and community partners select the questions to be asked.

7e.On site set up and clean up 10 people needed

8. Welcome and recognition committee. 10 people. Every person who enters should be personally greeted by and active member of the Genesee County Democratic Party.

9. Jack Minore should be given an opportunity to promote Democratic Party activism to those in attendance at the debate.

10. I will propose to the committee that every attendee should be given a ballot. One color for residents of the City of Flint and another for everyone else. When leaving these ballots can be cast. A committee will on site tabulate and announce the results. 10 people with a strong leader needed.
