SEVERAL SAY THE MC ENCOURAGED RUNNERS TO DIVE INTO THE MUD PIT! IS THIS HIIM

Red Aunt Events and Genesee County Officals should look into these allegations.
BREAKING NEWS -

SEVERAL SAY A MICHIGAN WARRIOR DASH 07/30/11 RACE OFFICAL WAS TELLING THE RUNNERS TO DIVE INTO THE MUD PIT.

THE INJURY AT THE WARRIOR DASH, GENESEE/FLINT MI 07/30/11, WAS NOT THE RUNNERS FAULT, AND OFFICAL WAS TELLING PEOPLE TO DIVE INTO A SHALLOW MUD PIT, THE BLAME NOW LAYS WITH RED AUNT EVENTS TO CLEAR UP.

See my full set of pictures  from the race

AS of 08/04/11 ,4 participants have stated on facebook, they heard the MC at the start of the mud pit encourage them to dive in.

see pictures of the MC in action.

I participated in the Genesee County Michgan Warrior Dash as media ( hobby blogger). Traveling with the 3rd wave on Saturday 7/30/11, I finished about 1 pm taking many pictures.

I remember the mud pit where a later participant broke his neck.

I remember the loud and boisterous master of ceremonies (MC).

Baiting the participants as they approached the pit. Later runners said he was telling them to dive in.

The water was 18 inches at the most.

The rules were clear there was to be no diving into the mud pit.

In an environment that encouraged drinking and a 5k challenge course something went wrong.

A young man is crippled for ever.

Whose fault was it?

The spin was to blame it on the participant, but if officals were telling him to dive in the there is plenty of blame yo go around.

Everybody signed waivers but if the race organizers did something inherently dangerous like encouraging runners to dive into the shallow mud pit against the rule and there is an injury then the waiver means nothing and the race promoters, Genesee County Government, The Genesee County Parks Commissions the individual who encouraged the dangerous dive and you and me as taxpayers if you live in Genesee County are liable for the permanent handicapp of the young man that trusted the race would be safe.

Here are my pictures of what was happening at the mud pit.

Closer look at the the mud pit that was dove into, it was ankle deep.

I posted the above pictures and a race participant I met race day who I took pictures of, he was dressed as sponge Bob and is a professional, said the following.

Scott Reagan said on facebook "I would agree. The pit is not 3 ft deep. The footage of me going in on Mlive shows that it is only18" at best. Also, you can hear the MC saying to see us dive."

The following on an unrelated face book page of the Warrior Dash itself where I had posted the same pictures a facebooker who said:

"Elizabeth Koltonow" on facebook said " I ran it on saturday in MI and the MC was encouraging participants to dive in."

Another facebook participant in the Warrior Dash added,

Amy Williams "Also heard MC encourage people to dive."

David Lossing  said on facebook "That's what I've heard as well. The MC was encouraging participants to be creative on their approach. Unfortunate."

Here is an artical I wrote several days prior.

What did you see at the mud pit if you ran.

08/06/11 I inquired on fb.

Q:As a hobby blogger I have stumbled upon what is legitimate mainstream news and am asking what do I do with it

THE NEWS. I have from four independant social media sources that runners at the 7/30/11 Warrior Dash were contrary to the rules were told to dive into a shallow mud pit at the end of the race. ONE who did broke his neck.
fb friends responded  about 10:30 08/06/11
Barry Simon perhaps next year they'll name it the "Darwin Dash
Ed Chapko If I was asked to jump in something I would question it. Sorry to hear about the person breaking neck but it's his/her fault, not anybody else's. Crazy how Americans can be quick to put blame on someone or other Organizations. I guess that is why we have so many Lawyers who think they can profit from this kind of activity and run a country in the ground.
Tom Sumner As one comedian put it referring to bungee jumping..."It turns out my parents were right. I will jump off a bridge if my friends tell me to do it."

Terry Bankert ed, its the lawyers fault?. The runners sign waivers to participate in an inheretently dangerous event with several specific rule one of which is do not dive into the mud pit. At the mud pit a race offical is telling the runner to dive into the mud pit one who does breaks his neck. Thats the lawyers fault.

Ed Chapko You took that wrong my friend, it's the fault of the person who broke his neck and his alone, it's what I call an accident. Lawyers didn't have anything to do with it. They just get into the action after the fact. Happy running, by the way, don't always do what others tell you, set boundaries. :o)

Terry Bankert I did not take it wrong. At the end of a grueling race a race official baits The runners to violate the rules and dive head first into a shallow mud pit breaking his neck. The waiver goes out The window. Liability shifts back to the organization who have a duty to protect. Why are we so quick to condem This kid with a broken neck now in a Grand Rapids Hospital?
Ed Chapko This is going to be hard for someone to understand. IT WAS AN ACCIDENT, THE GUY WOULD TELL YOU THAT, GO INTERVIEW HIM AND SEE IF THAT ISN'T THE CASE. Enough said, but thanks for letting me say what I think, that's what America is all about.

Shawn Chittle Hey Ed, the Port Authority and FDNY told people in WTC 1 and 2 to stay put and not evacuate. They all got vaporized. Was that their fault?
Linda Perkins-Hritz When you participate in any activity, you rely on the staff to give you the right advice. It was an accident but the wrong instructions by an employee contributed to it. Young people, especially, get caught up in the moment and they have only the officials to trust.
