THE OBAMA SHIFT IS NORMAL EXPECTED AND ACCEPTED BY DEMOCRATS

Democrats take Obama shift in stride [1]

DEMOCRATS RECOGNIZE THAT YOU HAVE TO BUILD A COALITION BEYOND A NARROW THREAD OF THE PARTY TO RUN THE COUNTRY. A REALITY THAT ESCAPES THE REPUBLICANS

As Barack Obama moves to broaden his appeal beyond loyal Democrats, a chorus of anger and disappointment has arisen from the left. But those voices are a distinct minority because the party has a more pressing concern: winning in November. [1]

YOU CANNOT PIGEON HOLE OBAMA AS A LIBERAL.

On Wednesday, Obama again bucked his liberal allies, voting in the Senate to give legal immunity to phone companies that took part in warrantees wiretapping after the Sept. 11 attacks. Critics chided Obama for the vote -- which put him crossways with dozens of Democratic colleagues, including Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York [1]
Obama's vote was not unexpected, as he had signaled earlier that he would back the compromise legislation. But the senator from Illinois found himself at odds with Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (Nev.) and Majority Whip Richard J. Durbin (Ill.), as well as three of his opponents for the Democratic nomination, including Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.). [2]

THE OBAMA PRESIDENCY WILL BUILD A NEW DEMOCRATIC BASE ,MEN, WOMEN, YOUNG OLD, BLACK , WHITE, BROWN, RICH , POOR AND A SURVIVING MIDDLE CLASS PULLED FROM REPUBLICAN EXTINCTION.

The vote, a reversal of an earlier pledge, was Obama's latest perceived step away from his party's base on a range of issues, among them the death penalty, gun control and taxpayer money for religious groups.[1]

THE CENTER IS NOT A BAD PLACE TO BE AFTER TWO PRESIDENTIAL TERMS OF THE CHENEY RIGHT WING AND POSSIBLE IDENTICAL FUTURE WITH MCCAIN

OpenLeft.com, said that an Obama win in November would be a victory for "centrist government," adding: "Progressives are going to have to organize for progressive values."[2]

OBAMA INTRODUCES A STRONG PRO WOMAN POLICY

"I don't accept an America where a woman earns less than a man for the same work, or an America that makes women choose between their kids and their careers," Sen. Obama said in a statement.[3]

His "Plan for Economic Security for America's Working Women" includes a repackaging of existing economic ideas such as a tax cut of as much as $1,000 per family that would affect as many as 71 million working women, and new proposals including a required seven days of paid sick leave for an estimated 22 million additional working women as well as more affordable child care.[3]

WORKING PEOPLE TO GET A MINIMUM WAGE BOOST WITH MCCAIN

As part of his plan to support working women, Sen. Obama pledges to raise the minimum wage to $9.50 an hour by 2011 from $7.25 an hour in 2009, reduce health-care costs per family by as much as $2,500 and promote equal pay for women.[3]

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, women earn 77 cents for every dollar earned by men. The pay gap is greater for minority working women, with Hispanic women earning 53 cents and African-American women 62 cents for every dollar men earn.[3]

SPEED BOATING BLOGGER QUICK TO ATTACK THE LOGICAL EVOLUTION OF PRESIDENCY. OBAMA IS ON THE BEST PATH.

Reaction has been swift and -- aside from the blogosphere and some newspaper columnists -- notably mild.[1]

WE HAVE TO BECOME ACCUSTOMED TO THE NEW KID ON THE BLOCK, BUT WE KNOW WHO THE THUGISH ENEMY IS- MC CAIN!

"We're willing to work through this period," said Richard Parker, president of the liberal Americans for Democratic Action, one of the party's most enduring advocacy groups. In the long
run, he said, the organization's "serious concerns" about Obama are far outweighed by its disagreements with Republican John McCain.[1]

VETERANS KNOWS THAT MC CAIN IS NOT THE ONE.

Gerald Austin, a veteran Democratic strategist, put it more succinctly: "When I hear people complaining . . . I tell them I have one thing to say: 'President John McCain. Three Supreme Court appointments.' That's all I need to say."[1]

OBAMA IS SIMPLY SAYING I AM MY OWN MAN AND I WILL TELL IT LIKE IT IS

Obama denies any sort of shape-shifting. Campaigning in Georgia on Tuesday, the Illinois senator said that those who see him as moving to the center "haven't been listening."[1]"Everybody has become so cynical about politics that the assumption is you must be doing everything for political reasons," Obama said. "And the message I want to send to everybody is: You're not going to agree with me on 100% of what I think. But don't assume that if I don't agree with you on something, that it must be because I'm doing that politically. I may just disagree with you."[1]

The reality is that Obama is some of all those things. His strong opposition to the Iraq war helped draw support from the left in the primary elections. But he insisted Tuesday that he long has held many positions that are moderate rather than liberal. [2]

THE PRIMARY WAS A BATTLE WITHIN THE PARTY, NOW ALL GUNS ARE AIMED AT MCCAIN.

At the very least, Obama has changed his tone and his emphasis after competing with Clinton for months to seem truest to the Democratic Party's traditional values.[1]

OBAMA HAS ROOM FOR RELIGIOUS FUNDING, SUPPORTING THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS AND CAPITAL PUNISHMENT ALONG WITH OTHER TRADITIONAL DEMOCRATIC POSITIONS ON HIS PLATE

Last week alone, Obama gave a speech on his support for public funding of social programs run by religious groups, and another on patriotism, wearing a flag pin on his lapel. The week before, he welcomed the Supreme Court's decision overturning a handgun ban in the District of Columbia and criticized its ruling against the death penalty for child rape. [1]

OBAMA WILL CONTINUE THE FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM

On Wednesday, he voted for the wiretapping bill, which passed 69 to 28. Obama has called his support a "close call," saying the measure enabled authorities to investigate suspected terrorists but put limits on a president's power to approve wiretaps.[1]

AMERICANS ACCEPT A SHIFT BETWEEN THE PRIMARY RACE AN THE GENERAL ELECTION

Few voters cast their ballots based on a single issue, making much of the discussion of Obama's evolution -- real or imagined -- just so much talk by political insiders. Significantly, though, many have accepted what they see as Obama's shift.[1]"To the extent progressives see him as the Reagan of the left, Reagan didn't tack toward the center," Austin said. "He moved the American electorate to the right."[1]

THE CONSERVATIVE BLOGGING PARROTS ARE SPOUTING THE MCCAIN TALKING POINTS OF THE MOMENT

The greater danger for Obama may come from outside the party. His recent statements have made it easier for McCain to undercut his image by portraying him as just another garden-variety politician "willing to change positions, break campaign commitments and undermine his own words in his quest for higher office," as Tucker Bounds, a spokesman for the Arizona senator, put it. [1]

ONE (OBAMA) MANS FLIP CAN BE ANOTHER MANS (MCCAIN) FLOP

But McCain is also vulnerable to charges of flip-flopping, above all for embracing the Bush tax cuts that he once dismissed as giveaways to the rich. [1]

MCCAIN WAS NOT UP TO TALK ALL SUBJECTS HIMSELF

Republican John McCain prides himself on being a straight talker. But he resisted being dragged into a discussion Wednesday about insurance companies that cover Viagra but not birth control products.[5]

NEITHER THE FAR RIGHT NOR THE FAR LEFT SHOULD RUN THE COUNTRY. THE DEMOCRATS UNDERSTAND THIS THE REPUBLICANS DO NOT

The last Democrat to occupy the White House, Bill Clinton, benefited from the same sort of shrugging acceptance from the left. A few years in the political wilderness can do a lot to promote party unity.[1]

MOST INTELLIGENT PRESIDENTS, AS OBAMA IS, WILL MOVE TOWARD THE MIDDLE WHILE PRESERVING THEIR CORE VALUES. BUSH DID NOT MCCAIN WILL NOT.

In 1992, Clinton ran on a platform that included deficit reduction and "ending welfare as we know it" -- hardly Democratic orthodoxy. Clinton, then the governor of Arkansas, also left the campaign trail to preside over the execution of a mentally incapacitated inmate, Ricky Ray Rector, and famously went before Jesse Jackson's Rainbow Coalition to repudiate Sister Souljah, a hip-hop artist and political activist. [1]While there was some outcry from liberal activists, the overwhelming majority of Democrats -- and liberal voters -- stuck with Clinton in the fall. More significantly, the moves strengthened Clinton's reputation as "a different kind of Democrat," broadening his appeal and helping him win a three-way contest against President George H.W. Bush and independent Ross Perot. No two elections are the same. Clinton no doubt gained mightily from the fact that there was no blogosphere back in 1992: The "net-roots" have been a source of much of the anxiety over Obama's moves.[1]

THE DEMOCRATIC MISSION I TO TAKE THE WHITE HOUSE, NOT TO BE DISTRACTED

But one similarity is a deep hunger among Democrats to take back the White House -- which has made many in the party willing to stomach views they might have once rejected.[1]Paul Helmke, president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, disagreed with Obama's support for the ruling on the right to bear arms. But from a pragmatic standpoint, Helmke said, "I think Obama probably played it the right way politically."[1]

CHENEY and CENSORSHIP

THE VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES HAS CAUSED POLITICAL CENSORSHIP TO THWART ACTION OF THE EPA AND THE RULE OF LAW AS DEFINED BY THE UNITED STATE SUPREME COURT, TO KEEP US FROM KNOWING THE TRUE HARM OF GLOBAL WARMING.CHENEY IS LEAVING AS HE ARRIVED[7]

In the early days of the Bush presidency, Vice President Dick Cheney came under attack for drafting a national energy policy in secret. Now, as the Bush presidency winds down, Cheney is again coming under attack for his behind-the-scenes efforts to play down the threats of global warming in order to thwart regulation of greenhouse gas emissions. SUMMARY

1.CHENEY TOLD THE GOVERNMENTS SCIENTISTS TO LIE TO CONGRESS Some of the government's top scientists were forced by Vice President Cheney's office to downplay the health dangers of global warming when testifying before Congress, a former senior EPA official said Tuesday. [1] The story is a little confusing, but at its heart is the continuation of a campaign of lies and misinformation coming from our White House about the very real impact of global warming.[8]

2.CHENEY HAS KEPT OUR EPA FROM PROTECTING AMERICANS GREENHOUSE GAS The issue of whether greenhouse gases endanger public health or welfare is significant because a finding by the EPA that they do would require the agency to regulate them under the terms of the federal Clean Air Act, spurring new rules across a range of industries.[3]

3.THEIR WHITE HOUSE IS IN CONFLICT WITH OUR EPA

4.CHENEY IS COMMITTING A COVER UP THAT SHOULD BE CRIMINAL

5.WHITE HOUSE DENIES CHENEY’S LIES, NOTE THE ARE THE SAME PEOPLE THAT BROUGHT US THE WMD ARGUMENTS

6.BUSH LIES TO G8 IN JAPAN AND THE AMERICAN PEOPLE AT HOME

7.SENATES ATTEMPT TO LEARN ABOUT GLOBAL WARMING BACK BURNERED BY CHENEY CENSORSHIP

8.U.S. SUPREME COURT RULED GREENHOUSE GASSES ARE POLLUTANTS

9.CHENEY DOES NOT WANT US TO LEARN HOW GLOBAL WARMING WILL HARM US

10.THE ADMINISTRATION WANTED THEIR REPORT TO BE THE SAME AS ANOTHER

11.THE ADMINISTRATION WANTED TO MAKE THEIR REPORT BETTER, FOR THEM

12.CLIMATE CHANGE IS HAPPENING AND WILL HAVE A BAD IMPACT ON HUMAN HEALTH AND FOOD AND WATER SCARCITY Boxer released documents today alleging that Gerberding's testimony nevertheless was altered, including findings that climate change is ``likely to have a significant impact on health'' as a result of heat and allergic diseases plus food and water scarcity.[5]"We now know that this censorship was part of a master plan" to make the EPA's response to a Supreme Court order that greenhouse gases were pollutants that must be regulated by the federal government "as weak as possible," Boxer said.[7]

13.ANOTHER BUSH COVER UP HOW MANY MORE BEFORE THEY LEAVE

14.CHENEY IS THE HEART OF THE REPUBLICAN EFFORTS TO GIVE THIS COUNTRY TO THE RICH

15.CHENEY HAS BEEN ANTI ENVIRONMENTAL SINCE DAY ONE

16.WHEN OUR GOVERNMENT CENSURES ITSELF TO KEEP US FROM KNOWING THE TRUTH WE SHOULD BE ANGRY, HERE AT THE REPUBLICANS Obviously, we'll see how this story plays out, though it does confirm many suspicions that censorship of global warming information is happening both knowingly, and at the highest levels. TURMOIL

The political turmoil caused by poverty and resource scarcity will affect United States Policy and Security![trb]
_______________
Good Morning Flint! 07/08/08
http://flinttalk.com/viewtopic.php?p=31792#31792
____________

"The world faces three simultaneous crises - a food crisis, a climate crisis and a development crisis," [1] In the turmoil of our current world economic crisis we still have under developed contries needing the basics in aid to develop infrastructure and educate their people।[trb]

The G8 has been looked to for help from these still developing African nations with disappointment।[trb] Aid groups accused some of the G8 nations -- Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia and the United States -- of walking away from earlier commitments।[2]With the hardship facing the G8 its no wonder Africa is paid les sattention। But we are in this world together Globalization brings the countries in poverty to our door step।[trb]

People wonder why African nations are skeptical about the on-going G8 Summit on the Japanese Island of Hokkaido। Well, three years after the promises made at the Gleneagles summit in Scotland there is still little to show that the “Make Poverty History” rallying call was not just a mirage।It was bound to be.[6]

THE WORLD SHARES THE ECONOMIC CRISIS, DOES THIS CALL FOR MARKET CONTROL?African leaders have pressed the Group of Eight (G industrialised nations to control oil and food prices, warning the crisis threatens to aggravate an already desperate plight on the continent.[1]

MAJOR POWERS ACKNOWLEDGE THEY CANNOT GO IT ALONE.In terms of the number of participating world leaders, this is the largest summit since the first in 1975. The involvement of key countries outside of the club also reflects the G-8's recognition that the major powers themselves can no longer go it alone in the face of multiple global-level crises. [5] The G8 will continue to be an important resource for Africas poor.[trb]Aid groups like Oxfam say international funds help buy life-saving drugs crucial in fighting Africa's epidemics of AIDS and malaria. [3]

BROKEN PROMISE TO AID.They [the G8] are under increasing pressure to deliver on commitments made three years ago to double their aid to Africa - the continent hardest-hit by rising food and fuel costs.[1]They have not met this committment. Some would say these old leades care not, I proposition that they cannot help because of their own economic uncertainty.[trb] "If 6,000 people were dying every single day from HIV/AIDS in North America and Europe, would the G8 not have long time ago found the resources and fixed the problem?"[3].

AFRICIAN NATIONS IN NEED MEET G8.The heads of state at the summit met leaders from Algeria, Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa and Tanzania to discuss development aid. [1]these nations are the poorest of the poor. Often we give a blind eye to Africe because of our Eurocentric view of life.[trb]

COMMODITY PRICES CONTINUE TO RISE.Angela Merkel, the German chancellor, said: "The African countries expressed their fears that many of the Millennium Development Goals will be more difficult to reach if commodity prices keep rising like they are at the moment."[1] How can we with American policies stop the rise in commondity prices. We cannot without address the entires package of global warming, monopolistice oil price gouging , increasing research in alternative fuels and sanctioning countries that subsidize labor to invade our markets.[trb]

THE IMPACT OF RISING OIL COSTS AND THE DOUBLING OF COMMODITY PRICES. The three-day summit also discussed the impact of food prices, which have nearly doubled in three years, setting off riots in parts of the developing world. These areas are also hardest by record oil prices.[1] Resource rioting will politically destabilize the poor nations.[trb] "In London, where I'm from, the price of pasta goes up 40 [pence] - it's annoying. But when the price of food goes up 40 percent, and you're living on a dollar a day, it's life threatening," said Buston.[3] U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, also joining the summit, said Monday the effects of global warming are already harming Africa's agriculture. Aid groups say the drive by large corporations to produce agriculturally derived biofuels in Africa are further squeezing the continent's food supply, while pushing up prices. [3] Joseph Ssuma, a farmer and activist from Uganda, says the biofuel industry is "easily one of the most threatening interruptions of African production."[3]

G8 ASKED TO DOUBLE ITS AID.Ban Ki-moon, the UN secretary-general, who attended the start of the summit, backed the African leaders and called on the G8 to live up to its Millennium Development Goals to double aid for Africa by 2010.[1] It was initially promised in 2005, at a summit in Gleneagles, Scotland, to double aid to Africa to $25bn a year by 2010 as part of a wider drive to alleviate global poverty.[1]

THREE CRISES CONVERGING.Ban said: "The world faces three simultaneous crises - a food crisis, a climate crisis and a development crisis," Ban told reporters. "The three crises are deeply interconnected and need to be addressed as such."[1] "Food and fuel, sustenance and energy, malnutrition and health, it does not get more basic than that,"[3]

AID DELIVERY SCANDALOUS.Jesse Griffiths, a policy adviser at ActionAid, told Al Jazeera that the manner in which the G8 delivers aid is "scandalous".[1] He said: "Much G8 aid is tied to the goods and services of G8 countries." "If G8 leaders and their countries were to untie all their aid, there would be a cost saving of over $6bn."UN and African Union figures indicate that less than a quarter of the pledged amount has been forthcoming.[1] A report issued last month by the Africa Progress Panel, which was set up to monitor the implementation of the Gleneagles commitments, said that under current spending plans, the G8 will fall 40 billion dollars short of its target.[4]

WORLD WIDE 105 MILLION MORE TO JOINT THE POOR.A preliminary World Bank study released last week estimated that up to 105 million more people could drop below the poverty line due to rising food prices, including 30 million in Africa.[1]
